Zombie Distilleries: Raising Spirits for One Last Round
For passionate entrepreneurs, the true horror is not the supernatural—it's having to prematurely end a project that embodies years of effort and dreams. This Halloween, Bar Crocodile invites you to experience the resurrection of lost spirits with our special event: Zombie Distilleries. From October 31 to November 2, we bring you a menu featuring the essence of Quebec distilleries that left too soon.
When? October 31 - November 2, 2024
Where? Bar Crocodile, 6484 Saint-Laurent, Montreal
The special menu at Bar Crocodile pays tribute to three remarkable Quebec microdistilleries—Distillerie du Saint-Laurent, Distillerie Fils du Roy, and Distillerie La Chaufferie. Despite closing their doors, these pioneers have left an indelible mark on Quebec's spirit-making scene. For three evenings, we’re offering unique cocktails inspired by the challenges these artisans faced in a market that wasn’t always on their side.

The Cocktails: Bringing History Back to Life
- La Mort est dans le Pré (From Grave to Bottle): This salty espresso martini with St-Laurent gin highlights the struggle of “grain to bottle” production, a process that often goes underappreciated. It’s a tribute to the integrity of true terroir-focused artisans.
- Syphon 54: A tiki gin drink topped with funky foam, this cocktail symbolizes a 54% surcharge on distillery property sales.
- L’Apre Rôle Fitz: A whisky Old Fashioned, deliberately misleading by name, this cocktail represents the lack of consistent support faced by distilleries. Like those empty promises, it will surprise you with something unexpected.
- La Courailleuse enchaînée (The Shackled Wild One): Featuring citrus, absinthe, orgeat, and vodka, this drink reflects the binding regulations that keep local spirits from being sold directly to restaurants or events—unlike other local alcoholic beverages.

From October 31 to November 2, Bar Crocodile (@crocodile.bar.mtl) will feature this limited-edition Zombie Distilleries menu. Come to honor the legacy of our local pioneers and enjoy a cocktail while reflecting on the unique struggles faced by Quebec’s craft spirit makers.Curious? Come raise a glass and pay homage to the artisans who helped shape Quebec’s distilling culture. Even though these distilleries have closed, their spirits live on in our memories—and in your glass. As a side note, we’re happy to say that absinthe La Courailleuse will continue to be produced in New Brunswick, and the Saint-Laurent brand has found new life under Arsenal, a dynamic distillery in Quebec. Keep these spirits alive!
